Yeah I haven’t had enough coffee this morning to think of anything kitchy or catchy to name “This Guy” so there you go. I have been working on my ability to stage and think I’m doing pretty good. I definitely have to work on my pictures . I am considering buying some software to help me with that. I am pretty inept when it comes to technical stuff and usually just wanna hand my husband the computer and say FIX IT. Half the time I don’t even know what IT is. I just point and say I don’t want it to do THAT. I am working on my abilities and maybe one day I will look back and be embarrassed about how bad my pictures are, ok I am embarrassed now. I just need something easy so a paintbrush wielding creative mind can use it. I see other bloggers who have wonderful sites. They cant all be technical and creative geniuses can they? Ok I am gonna post the pics I have and try to fix it later.
This is the the dresser I talked about in my last post. From the huge warehouse…. you know… read my last post, I’ll wait – http://corinnescreativecloset.com/2015/03/drab-to-fab/
It has chippy veneer and a bad finish. I wanted to somehow save the burled wood on this beautiful piece and the handles are definitely staying with a bit of cleanup and touchup. So my mind went to churning, yes this is dangerous so stand back. I am not really good at preplanning a piece so I just got to fixing the veneer with Bondo, yes the stuff they use on cars. It doesn’t stain well but it patches damage like nobody’s business and dries in minutes not hours and sands like a dream. I just hoped for the best as far as covering the Bondo with paint in the stripes. I figured there would be so much going on that no one would miss a bit peeking through. I sanded all the drawers down to the wood and stained General Finishes Gel Stain in Nutmeg and painted the case in Fusion Cathedral Taupe….LOVE this stuff. I am about to try a new type of paint I have been itching the get my brush into. I am a freak when it comes to trying new colors and products. I am not a paint snob but there are certain products I absolutely love and love to work with and others I just don’t think are up to snuff. So many paint companies are so eager to jump on the paint bandwagon they put out substandard products with high prices that just don’t perform well. Why yes I do have ADD. So back to my dresser.
I forgot to take pics of the taping process but you get the jest of it when you look at the final product.
I scrubbed the years of funk off of the dresser pulls and polished up the brass with Bar Keepers Friend. A little Rub and Buff on the lines in the pull that the finish had worn off of and they look like new. I lightly distressed him and put a coat of the Fusion Antiquing Tough Coat on the entire piece to protect him from damage.
Beautiful! if you love this sturdy guy as much as I do he will be at Consignment Showcase in Fountain Inn , SC this weekend.
